Surgical cerclage is the classic way to prevent cervical insufficiency and thus late abortion or preterm birth.

A comparable effect can be achieved in many cases without surgery: with medesign cerclage pessaries. Today, after more than 10 years of experience worldwide, this therapy, which is safe in every respect, is considered an alternative to surgery. For both methods the success rates are between 80% and 90%.
