The two thickenings at the upper edge of the pessary shift the junction between the bladder and urethra upwards, thus preventing involuntary urine leakage during exertion such as coughing or movement. A prerequisite for wearing a Cramer pessary is that you have not previously undergone vaginal surgery involving vaginal tightening. Furthermore, your pelvic floor must still possess at least some degree of strength.
