Sweet almond oil was considered a precious gift of nature even in ancient times. It is used as a soothing and calming skin oil, as well as in pharmaceutical preparations, and its high heat tolerance makes it suitable as a cooking oil.
It is obtained from the shell-free seeds of the almond tree. The almond tree, which originally grows wild, is native to the Mediterranean region (especially Spain) and the USA (mainly California).
Sweet almonds are used to produce the oil because they do not contain the bitter and toxic flavor compounds. Refined almond oil is yellowish in color. It is thin, greasy, and has a characteristic odor.
