A very rare and valuable oil is extracted from the kernels of the olive-like fruits of the argan tree, which grows in Morocco. It is one of the oldest tree species in the world, now growing only in southwestern Morocco and considered endangered. It can bear fruit several times a year. Its green fruit is inedible, a nut-shaped nut three times thicker than hazelnuts. Once the pulp is removed, the kernels inside, smaller than a sunflower seed, are revealed. One hundred kilograms of fruit yield only 5 kilograms of kernels, from which 2.4 kilograms of oil can be pressed.
