Description
The medesign vaginal phantom is used to facilitate certain surgical procedures in the female pelvis.
The patient must be positioned in the lithotomy position with minimal overhang of the operating table for the surgical procedure. The insertion of a transurethral indwelling catheter (or a pubic fistula) is recommended.
The moistened phantom is inserted vaginally after surgical disinfection and sterile draping of the patient. The surgeon must always verify correct insertion. The rounded end faces the patient; the angled half or the smooth end ensures secure guidance and facilitates positioning of the phantom by the surgical assistant.
Lowering the handpiece anteflexes the vaginal axis. The Douglas pouch and the posterior vaginal wall are optimally exposed to the surgeon.
The phantom is therefore suitable as an aid for visualizing the vaginal cuff during surgical preparation at the vaginal opening and on the posterior vaginal wall in Z.n. Hysterectomy.
It can be used in abdominal sacrocolpopexy, but also for the safe visualization of the vagina during preparation at the rectum or in cases of adhesions.
