the night or be replaced by a smaller Cramer Pessary at night.

Instead of changing the pessary themselves, many older patients leave this to

their physician. Removal and reinsertion is necessary every 4 to 8 weeks. Ple-

ase follow your doctor’s instructions for this.

Wash your hands prior to inserting the pessary. To ease insertion it is

recommended that a lubricant, such as Ladysoft, be used. If needed, the Cra-

mer Pessary may be coated with a cream or gel containing oestrogen.

Now insert the Cramer Pessary into the vagina. It may be helpful to place one

leg e.g. on the edge of your bed. Some women find it easier to insert the Cra-

mer Pessary in a crouching or lying position. You could also lean against a wall

with your legs slightly spread and then insert the pessary. Try out which me-

thod is best for you.

Push the pessary into the position shown to you by your physician. Make sure

that the thick ends are placed exactly next to the urethra. The pessary is

placed correctly if you cannot feel any pressure. If the Cramer Pessary is not

placed correctly it cannot fulfil its supporting function and will slide out under

strain.

How do I remove the Cramer Pessary?

You should also wash your hands prior to removal. Thoroughly lubricate your

vaginal area with Ladysoft Lubricant. Grab the Cramer Pessary with your in-

dex finger and pull the pessary out of your vagina. Do not use any other equip-

ment for removing the Cramer Pessary. Subsequently wash your hands again.
