Description
The hazelnut shrub, which is widespread in Europe as far as Asia Minor, was cultivated from earliest times for its oil-rich seeds (nuts).
Hazelnut oil, which is very high in oleic acid and has a nutty aroma and flavor, is obtained by pressing crushed hazelnuts (cold-pressed hazelnut oil). In cosmetics, hazelnut oil is used in nourishing products (ointments, creams, shampoos). The subtly scented, fragrant hazelnut oil is also an excellent massage oil that is absorbed slowly and not very deeply; it is said to have a firming, vasoconstrictive, and tissue-strengthening effect. It has a smoothing effect, promotes blood circulation, and maintains the skin's suppleness due to its phytosterol content, which strengthens the skin's lipid barrier.
